About the Don KosakenChor Russland
The Don KosakenChor Russland was established in 1992 after then president Jeltsin gave permission to award the Cossacks elite corps status. The choir celebrated its first lustrum in 1999 and was awarded the status of “Army choir of the great Don Army.” In the year 2000 it performed at the White House in Moscow. This concert represented a big break and led to sold out concerts all over Europe. Many European television broadcasters such as, the NOS-Journaal, RTL-Deutschland and RTL-Nederland reported on the Moscow concert. The Don KosakenChor Russland then recorded a CD in Moscow and shot the first takes of a television special in june 2001.
After the tour through Turkey in October 2002, the choir was asked to arrange a concert on Cyprus in 2003. Invitations to perform at important festivals in Turkey followed. After the choir’s successful performance in Moscow in 2000, the Don KosakenChor Russland gave another special concert at the Moscow White House on the invitation of the Russian Presidential Administration, the Federal Council, the State Duma and the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation. Because of the connection between the Cossacks and the Russian Orthodox Church, the Don KosakenChor Russland made a recording of authentic Christmas eve Vespers in “The Church of the Blessed Virgin” Cathedral in Izmailovo, in Moscow, in October 2008. That was done in cooperation with the university of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Danilov Cloister’s regent. This recording - Christmas in Russia: Russian Orthodox Vespers - was launched worldwide in October 2010 on the Christophorus label.
In november 2008, Universal Classics launched the CD “The best of the Don KosakenChor Russland” worldwide. And in November 2010, the choir gave a gala concert in the famous Dom Muzika in Moscow.
"The Christmas in Russia" CD’s success caused the record company to order an new recording. So, in January 2011 the CD “A Russian Romance” was recorded, with, amongst others, material from the nineteen sixties and seventies. This CD was also lauded and now forms the basis of coming tours. Every year, the choir is asked to return to the great stages of Europa and it also regularly performs in its home country, Russia.
